I flew from New York to Dallas in economy, almost at the very back of the plane, just to fly back to NYC less than 24 hours later 🤯
American Airlines provided my flights, hotel and transportation for this media event. As always, all opinions and experiences shared here are my own.
I flew economy for over 15 years (I was younger back then, LOL), and today travel is where I choose to spend my money.
For me, the journey starts when I get to the airport, and while I upgrade to First or Business on long-haul flights because I want to lie flat and get a “good night’s sleep” before reaching my destination, I also love spending time in the lounge, indulging in champagne and a good meal onboard, and simply being comfortable throughout the journey.
Not this time – LOL.
I was invited by American Airlines to be among the first to experience its newest Flagship Suite onboard a retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER from Dallas to JFK… and they flew me to Dallas in economy. 😅
I actually tried to purchase an upgrade, though unfortunately I was told the plane was full. The truth? It was quite hilarious sitting all the way in the back knowing that, less than 24 hours later, I would be flying back to NYC in a private Business Class suite.
So here’s my full review of the new American Airlines Flagship Suite, what surprised me, what I loved and the one thing I think is missing.
Would you spend money to experience it? Read till the end before giving me an answer ✔️
What Is American Airlines’ New Flagship Suite?
Think fully lie-flat seat, privacy door, chaise lounge position, direct aisle access, plenty of storage, and all those little details that become VERY important when you’re spending 8, 10… or even 16 hours on a plane.
And on this newly retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER, there are 70 of them: 62 regular Flagship Suites and 8 Flagship Suite Preferred seats, followed by a much larger Premium Economy cabin than I was expecting.
The Preferred suites offer up to 19% more bed space and 42% more living area, though I was in 16A, a regular Flagship Suite, so that’s the experience I’ll be reviewing here.
Before we even stepped onboard, American Airlines and Boeing brought us together to introduce the newly retrofitted aircraft and explain what went into creating it.

This 777-300ER will fly some of American’s most important long-haul routes, including London, Tokyo, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Sydney. And they specifically designed the experience with us, the passengers, in mind – thinking about what we really need during a 16-hour flight to Sydney.
All those little details inside the suite have a purpose because, when you’re sitting on a plane for that long, luxury is how you store your things, charge your devices, move around, eat, sleep and actually live in that little space for the next 16 hours.
Inside My American Airlines Flagship Suite
As soon as I got onboard, I checked EVERYTHING. Opened every tray, every compartment, checked the entire space… I wanted to get familiar with all the little details the American Airlines team had been talking about.
Is 16A a Good Seat?
I was assigned 16A, a window Flagship Suite, and there’s one thing you should know before booking it: this was the only window suite I noticed that had only one window instead of two like the others.
It might sound like a tiny detail, though, if you’re someone like me who specifically chooses a window seat because I need to look outside in case I have a panic attack (yup… 🥹 looking outside somehow comforts me), that might matter.
The good news is that 16A still has a proper window and view – you’re simply missing the second one. Would that stop me from choosing 16A again? No.
Privacy, Nest Bedding Mattress Pad + Chaise Lounge Position
Once we were in the air, I unfolded the Nest Bedding mattress pad, covered the seat and started testing all the positions. And while, yes, I obviously had to go fully flat, I was surprised by how much I loved the chaise lounge position. It was SO comfortable that I kept going back to it, especially when lunch was served.
Also: the duvet was SO COZY!!!!
Then I closed the privacy door, and it immediately brought me back to my Qatar Airways Qsuite experience. You’re still on an airplane with hundreds of other people, obviously, and yet it feels like you’re in your own little bubble.
The Little Details That Made Me Go… OK, They Thought About This
There’s a vanity cabinet with a proper mirror inside!!! You can actually see your entire face while removing your makeup, putting on a mask or doing your skincare instead of trying to see yourself in a teeny-tiny foldable mirror. This is actually where the suite impressed me the most.
I ended up using that cabinet to store my phone, Meta glasses, Insta360, tripod and DJI Pocket, along with my eye mask, lip balm and a small notebook + pen.
There’s also a little trinket tray designed for things like your jewelry, glasses or passport. Full disclosure: I only discovered what that was intended for when I read American’s information afterward, so I didn’t personally use it for my rings.
Then I found the dining table very smart! Of course, being able to move a Business Class table forward and backward isn’t unusual, though this one gives you SO much more room to move it in either direction. You can bring it closer when you’re eating or push it much farther away when you want more space, without having to rearrange your entire body.
And there’s also a separate little service tray the flight attendant opened to leave my nuts and wine without taking over the rest of my space. Nothing was crammed onto my dining table!
You also have plenty of space to the side, where you’ll find several charging options, so you can spread out your electronics without having everything piled on top of each other.
Another big detail that really impressed me: super-fast Wi-Fi!!! For someone like me, whose work is mainly online, this is really a game changer. I might have to fly American more often 😇
There’s only ONE thing I personally missed: a dedicated compartment to store my shoes.
There’s space for them near the footwell, though, for someone super organized like me, I would have preferred having a specific spot designed for them.
Tiny detail that would absolutely NOT prevent me from booking a 16-hour flight ✈️
And speaking of keeping everything organized, I also LOVE the amenity kit itself! I got the Silverbird design, created especially for American Airlines’ 100th anniversary, and I’ll definitely use it again and again.
You already know how obsessed I am with organizing, packing and keeping everything tidy, and this one has a structured opening that actually stays open on its own. You can place it on a counter, open it and immediately see and reach everything inside without the bag collapsing or constantly trying to close.
There’s also an extra pocket inside, which is perfect for keeping the little things you want to find quickly. Then zip it up, throw it in your luggage and use it again on your next trip. THAT is the kind of amenity kit I love bringing home!
For this media event, we were also gifted a July carry-on, which looks BEAUTIFUL, and I cannot wait to test it on my next trip.

Food, Service + That Signature Sundae
For lunch, I had the vegetable lasagna, packed with spinach and vegetables, and I genuinely ate the entire thing. That says A LOT coming from me when it comes to airplane food… I’m Italian and VERY picky 🇮🇹🫣
I also had red wine and champagne because I felt like I deserved both after my previous flight in economy – LOL!
Then came my favorite part: American’s signature ice cream sundae, which you can customize with your toppings (I also love the Delta One signature ice cream sundae for the same reason). Mine was vanilla ice cream with warm chocolate fudge, pecans and whipped cream… SOOO GOOD!!!
The service was unbelievable. Everyone was incredibly attentive, careful and genuinely lovely throughout the entire flight.
Now, I also want to be fair: this was a special media flight, and we were there specifically to experience American’s brand-new product before it entered regular passenger service. So yes, I knew this wasn’t exactly an ordinary Tuesday flight.
That said, what impressed me the most was how proud and excited the whole team was about this new launch. Everyone went the extra mile!
American Airlines Flagship Suite vs. Qatar Qsuite
I know what you’re thinking because I was thinking the exact same thing: how does American’s new Flagship Suite compare to Qatar Airways Qsuite?
I flew Qatar Airways Qsuite from Milan to Doha on my way to the Maldives almost a year ago and absolutely LOVED it. In fact, it was one of those flights where I genuinely wished we could stay on the plane longer… and this new American Airlines Flagship Suite gave me a very similar feeling.
The privacy door, comfortable fully lie-flat bed and having your own little space in the sky immediately reminded me of Qsuite, though the two experiences aren’t identical.
And when it comes to storage, I actually think American designed it smarter.
Qatar gave me more little pockets, including a dedicated place for my shoes (which you already know I missed on American) though American’s vanity cabinet, proper mirror, separate service tray and the way the space around the seat is organized felt more functional to me overall.
You already know how much I loved American’s vegetable lasagna… though I STILL dream about the lobster I had on Qatar 🦞 So American, I’m just waiting for the opportunity to order lobster on one of your flights next… and I’ll report back!
Is American Airlines Flagship Suite Worth It?
So… would I spend my own money to fly American Airlines Flagship Suite?
Here’s where being flexible really makes the difference. Because I usually don’t splurge just to live a luxurious life, I’m VERY careful about where I spend my money. And no, I’m not someone who wants to spend $8,000 on a flight.
The way I usually travel is by keeping an eye on promotions and using points to upgrade. I recently bought a Delta One round-trip ticket to Milan for $3,700, and in that case, I chose to treat myself. Many times, I’m able to upgrade one leg of my trip to Business Class for less than 80,000 points or less than $1,000, and that feels like a steal!
Long-haul flights are where I choose to spend my money.
So if you ask me whether American Airlines Flagship Suite is worth it, yes, absolutely. Being able to close my door, lie completely flat, get a good night’s sleep, eat a good meal and arrive at my destination actually rested changes the entire trip for me.
My biggest complaint right now might be that American isn’t flying this new 777-300ER to Milan 🇮🇹
The retrofitted aircraft is expected on routes including London, Tokyo, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Sydney, so… I might book a London trip next, since I haven’t been in a while, and from there hop on a short flight to Milan 🙌
American Airlines Flagship Suite FAQs
Does American Airlines Flagship Suite include lounge access?
For qualifying international Flagship Business itineraries, passengers can access American’s Flagship Lounge where available, along with priority check-in, security, boarding and baggage handling.
Does American Airlines Flagship Suite have free Wi-Fi?
Yes. American retrofitted Boeing 777-300ERs offer free high-speed, gate-to-gate Wi-Fi for AAdvantage members, sponsored by AT&T. And from my experience on this flight, the Wi-Fi was impressively fast.
Do you get pajamas in American Airlines Flagship Suite?
On ultra-long-haul flights, American provides pajamas in the regular Flagship Business cabin. Bedding includes a Nest Bedding mattress pad, duvet and Cool Touch dual-sided pillow. I didn’t receive pajamas on my short DFW-JFK media flight, though I loved the mattress, the duvet and the pillow!!!
Is American Airlines getting rid of Flagship First Class?
Yes. American is transitioning away from Flagship First as it introduces more Flagship Suite seating. On the Boeing 777-300ER, Flagship First will no longer be available for travel beginning November 19, 2026.
My Final Take
I flew all the way to Dallas just to experience this new Flagship Suite, and somehow the flight back to New York still felt too short.
For someone who believes the journey is as important as the destination, I think that says pretty much everything.
Now it’s your turn: would YOU spend your money to experience it? Tell me in the comments, I’m really curious to know what you think! ✈️
