Updated February 2026 with the latest Festa dell’Opera 2026 dates and info!
Looking for the best free things to do in Brescia Italy? Let me tell you about the most magical experience I’ve ever had, and it didn’t cost a single euro.
Invited by Visit Brescia to explore all the beauty in and around Brescia, I also got to experience Festa dell’Opera… and it turned out to be one of the most mind-blowing moments of my entire life. 🥹

Who knew I’d wake up at 4am and go to sleep after 2am, chasing FREE opera performances all over the city, and feel so excited I couldn’t even sleep?!
The day started with a sunrise concert in a dreamy garden, followed by a performance of Don Giovanni inside the historic Hotel Vittoria’s suite (just 15 guests at the time!). We sipped aperitivo in Teatro Grande’s foyer, caught surprise arias from balconies and rooftops in the piazzas, then ended the day with a midnight concert at the Roman Capitolium.
In 2026, Festa dell’Opera returns for its 15th edition on Saturday, June 6, with a preview night on Friday, June 5, and the theme this year is “Conflitti” (Conflicts): a powerful exploration of one of humanity’s most universal experiences through the emotion of opera.
There are over 40 free performances packed into one single day.
Save the Date – Festa dell’Opera 2026
✨ Preview night: Friday, June 5, 2026
🗓 Main festival: Saturday, June 6, 2026 – 6:00am to midnight
🎭 Theme: “Conflitti” – the 15th edition
📍 All across Brescia city
💰 FREE – no ticket needed (some intimate events require advance reservation) 🔗 Keep an eye on festadellopera.it for the full program!
Before the official opening, last year we attended a beautiful preview performance called “Suggestioni dai Cortili”, a poetic teaser held in one of Brescia’s historic courtyards. It captured the spirit of the festival: intimate, emotional, and full of surprise. Just a taste of what was to come the next morning…
It feels like a citywide love letter to music, beauty, and life.
Still can’t believe this exists… and that so few people know about it. But now you do. And trust me, you’re going to want to save the date.
📍Stop Here Before Venice: Why Brescia Italy Is Worth Your Time
Brescia is one of the most underrated cities in Northern Italy, just 36 minutes from Milan by train and less than 2 hours from Venice, and Festa dell’Opera is the ultimate reason to visit.
If you’re planning a longer trip, check out my complete 5-day Brescia Italy itinerary for everything you need to know. And if you need a place to stay, I stayed at Corte Novella, steps from the historic center and perfect for the festival – more details below!
🎭 What Is Festa dell’Opera, and Why It’s So Special
Imagine an entire Italian city brought to life by music for one unforgettable day, every single year since 2012. In 2026, Festa dell’Opera celebrates its 15th edition, and it’s bigger and more beloved than ever.
Festa dell’Opera is a totally free, one-day festival in Brescia featuring more than 40 live performances across gardens, rooftops, piazzas, museums, balconies, and even hotel suites.
You’ll hear arias at sunrise, sip an aperitivo under frescoed ceilings, catch surprise opera from balconies, and end the night under the stars with a concert in a Roman temple. It’s emotional and surreal; everything you’ll love about Italy.
In 2025, more than 3,000 artists took over 80+ stages across the city, and some of the most emotional moments happened in unexpected places: prisons, healthcare homes, community centers… bringing music to those who need it most. It’s about inclusion, connection, and sharing beauty with everyone. That’s the soul of this festival ❤️
The 2026 edition explores the theme of “Conflitti” (Conflicts), a bold and timely choice that promises to be one of the most powerful editions yet.
🌟 How to Plan Your Visit to Festa dell’Opera Brescia 2026
The festival happens once a year in June, and it’s 100% FREE, no tickets required. In 2026, the main festival day is Saturday, June 6, with a special preview evening on Friday, June 5.
I’d highly recommend RSVPing in advance for intimate events like the sunrise concert, those spots go extremely fast. Keep an eye on festadellopera.it for the full 2026 program, which will be announced closer to the date.
🚆 How to Get There
📍 Brescia is perfectly located between Milan and Venice – one of the best and most underrated day trips from Milan you can make. It’s just 36 minutes from Milano Centrale by direct train, with departures throughout the day. If you’re coming from Venice, it’s under 2 hours. No car needed!
🏠Where to Stay
For Festa dell’Opera, location is everything: you want to be steps from the action, not scrambling across town at 5am for the sunrise concert.
I stayed at Corte Novella and genuinely loved it. Just steps from Brescia’s historic center and run by a lovely young couple, it feels more like a charming apartment than a hotel.
I had a living room, a separate bedroom, a kitchenette, and access to a peaceful courtyard in the back, perfect after a long day of chasing opera across the city. It was super cozy, clean, and comfy. Breakfast is all local pastries and treats, the kind that makes you look forward to waking up every morning.
Corte Novella
Boutique hotel steps from Brescia’s historic center – perfect for Festa dell’Opera.
More like a charming apartment than a hotel, with a private courtyard, local breakfast, and spotlessly clean rooms steps from Brescia’s most beautiful piazzas. Run by a lovely young couple who make you feel right at home.
Perfect for: Travelers who want to roll out of bed and straight into the magic of Festa dell’Opera.
☕ Heads up: breakfast starts at 7:30am, so if you’re an early bird like me, you’ll have to wait till then for your espresso. That’s Italy… I actually had to wander all over the city to find a coffee shop open that early… so just be patient 😅
