Are you ready for the spookiest, most iconic Halloween celebration in New York City? The Greenwich Village Halloween Parade is a must-see event, attracting over 50,000 participants in full costume each year! From funny and provocative to wildly creative and sexy, this parade showcases the best costumes NYC has to offer – making it one of the most exciting nights in the city.
I’ve been participating in the parade for the past 16 years, and I’m here to share with you all my insider tips for an UNFORGETTABLE experience! From marching in costume to enjoying the spectacular parade, this guide has everything you need to know about the 2025 NYC Village Halloween Parade! 🖤🕸️
When and Where
Date: Thursday, October 31, 2025
Time: New York City’s 52nd Annual Parade starts at 7:00 PM, and line-up begins at 6:30 PM
Location: The parade marches along Sixth Avenue, from Spring Street to 16th Street
Theme: “Imagine! ALL the People.” The parade invites everyone to come together for a joyful, creative “potluck” of costumes and ideas – “We saved you a seat… it’s a potluck!”
How to Participate 🧛♂️
Did you know you can actually take part in the parade simply by dressing up? All you need is a simple accessory, like a witch hat or a mask! If you’re extra creative, you could get featured on TV (I got interviewed once!!!). With a full costume or just a small nod to the Halloween spirit, there’s room for everyone in this incredible event.
Pro tip: Want the best view? Arrive VERY early (5:30 pm at the latest) for a prime spot behind the barricades.
The 2025 Village Halloween Parade Theme is “IMAGINE! ALL the People – It’s a Potluck! What Will You Bring to the Table?”
“It’s a Potluck! When we do it together and care for one another, there is enough for everyone!“
“It’s rough out there. People are divided; othering is rampant; online echo-chambers amplify the loudest, angriest voices. Does nothing still connect us? Can we still imagine common ground? Maybe it’s time to just sit down and break some bread together”.
This year, the parade beckons us to unite in a vivid, shared creative feast. Think costumes mingling like dishes at a communal table: bold, unexpected, free. YOU are the INGREDIENTS, the PLATE, MEAL , DESSERT, a FRUIT, the HOST! Bring out the tastiest version of yourself and dish it up 6th Avenue.
You’ll see massive puppets, dancers, live music, and a kaleidoscope of characters, each bringing their own flavor to the mix.
Mark your calendars: October 31, Greenwich Village. Get ready to imagine something wild, joyful, inclusive.
Halloween Parade NYC Route and How to Participate
Show up in costume at the designated entry points on Sixth Avenue and Canal Street between 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM. The ONLY entry points are from the East and South via Sullivan, East Broome, and Canal Streets. Arriving from the West? You’ll need to enter through Canal Street.
Pro Tip: Get in line around 5:45 PM for the best spot.
The best way to get there is by subway. The closest stops are: Canal St of the 1, A, C, and E trains.
Join the Iconic Thriller Flashmob!
One of the most legendary moments of the Village Halloween Parade is definitely the massive “Thriller” dance mob that comes alive right on Sixth Avenue!
If you’ve always dreamed of moonwalking with hundreds of zombies, sign up NOW for the Thriller flashmob via ThrillerNYC: Registration opens October 1 at noon and only the first 100 people to register get in the dance. Tickets typically sell out within minutes!!!
- Sign-Up & Rehearsals: The group behind the flashmob (often called Thrill the World NYC) offers rehearsal videos + live practice sessions throughout October.
- Costume: Zombie-inspired (ripped clothes, creepy makeup, or full Michael Jackson look).
- Day-of Check-In: Registered dancers meet early to warm up and get into position before the parade starts.
Where to watch the parade
- Along East and West side of 6th Ave, between King St and West 15th.
- The Parade starts at Canal at 7 pm and ends around 11 pm at 15th Street.
- The most crowded streets are between Bleecker and 14th Street, so you might consider getting there very early to save your spot.

💡 My insider tip: Before I started covering the parade with a press pass, I joined the regular line many times, and honestly, it was part of the fun! You’ll meet new people, chat with friends, and feel the buzz while waiting. Heads up: It does get crowded (expect to be squeezed shoulder-to-shoulder until you step off with the floats), however, I always showed up as early as 5:30 pm to be among the first. That way, even though you’re supposed to stay with your group between two floats, I could slip to the side now and then to admire other costumes and performances along the route.
